The Igbo Leaders of the South East were, on Tuesday, hailed by the All Progressives Congress (APC), South-East zone, for their support and concern on the proposed National Conference.
The Igbo Leaders of Thought had, in their various meetings, insisted that the proposed National Dialogue must produce a new constitution for the country to move forward.
The group also condemned the amendment as recommended by the Presidential Advisory Committee (PAC).
The All Progressives Congress (APC), in a statement signed by its spokesman, Osita Okechukwu, and made available to journalists in Enugu, stated that the APC was of the opinion that President Jonathan’s conference would be dead on arrival and diversionary, and agreed with the Leaders of Thought that the outcome of the National Dialogue must be subjected to a referendum.

According to Okechukwu, South-East APC praised Concerned Igbo Leaders of Thought for their position on referendum and the imperative of a new constitution.
“It has always been our position that if an amendment will be effective, our brothers, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, who preside over the two National Assembly committees on Constitutional Amendment, could have restructured Nigeria to true federalism.
“So, the Leaders of Thought deserve our commendation for insisting on a new constitution, to be subjected to a referendum for peoples approval,” Okechukwu said.
