The Rivers State Police Command has granted the Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Chidi Lloyd, bail.
Lloyd was arrested last week for allegedly using a bullet-proof vehicle to kill one Kingsley Ejehuo, identified as his kinsman and a police sergeant, Mr. Urang Obediah, along the East-West Road on December 30, 2013.
Lawyer for the lawmaker, Mr. Emenike Ebete, had declared the report of the police on the matter as false and distorted, adding that Lloyd was arrested at his residence in the presence of his family.
Lloyd, who represents Emohua State Constituency, was released on bail on Tuesday night after spending five days in police custody.
Ebete disclosed that Lloyd was given a condition that he must deposit his International Passport with the police and provide two sureties.
One of the sureties, according to the Ebete, was expected to deposit a Certificate of Occupancy of his (surety) property.
Speaking on the telephone with The PUNCH, The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, confirmed Lloyd’s release.
“He (Lloyd) is on police bail and investigation into the matter is ongoing,” Mohammad said.
