Some stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ezza North
and Ishielu local government areas of Ebonyi State at the weekend
warned of a plot by some voters in different communities in the two
local government areas to vote against the party during the 2015
general elections in the state.
Some of the stakeholders while speaking with PLATFORM9JA in Abakaliki,
the Ebonyi State capital, said that the plot followed what the
communities described as gross marginalisation of the two local
government areas by Governor Martin Elechi-led administration in the
state.
Chief Livinus Egbu, a stakeholder of the party in Ishielu LGA who
spoke to PLATFORM9JA at Nkalagu during the just concluded town union
election of the community, advised the leadership of the party at both
the state and national levels to forestall the plot spearheaded by
people of Igbeassa clan, which arose following a comment credited to
Governor Elechi.
He said, “Just recently, the people of the area met with the state
governor on the need to rehabilitate the Nkalagu-Nigercem-Ikem federal
road, a request the state governor turned down.He didn’t stop at that,
he went further to inform them that the next governor of the state would
continue the legal battle against the take -over of NIGERCEM by
core-investors.
“If we members of PDP believe we are going to have smooth victory in
2015, we must be joking. Communities especially my people of Ishielu are
disenchanted with the party. NIGERCEM is our heritage, it is our gift
from God and most of our youths who are unemployed would have been
gainfully employed if not for the stand of the state government on the
moribund company.
“Two of our people were sacked from the Governor’s cabinet and till
date, they have not been replaced. We didn’t benefit in infrastructure
and in appointment positions. We are the most marginalised. There are
fears that our people would again vote massively against PDP as they did
in 2011 which saw the emergence of an APC federal lawmaker and two
House of Assembly members”.
