Fayemi, Aregbesola emerge APC guber candidates in Ekiti, Osun

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State yesterday emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the June 21 governorship election.
Fayemi emerged after polling 192,767 votes at a  state congress held across the 177 wards collated in Ado Ekiti.
The governor was the sole aspirant for the primary election, having been adopted by leaders of the party since last year to fly its flag for the second term.
The leaders described the governor’s performance as satisfactory.
The leader of the Ekiti state APC Governorship Primary, who is also the National Organising Secretary of the party, Senator Osita Izunaso, immediately issued the Certificate of Returns of the party to Fayemi as its standard bearer for the election.
The governor was also given the INEC nomination forms EC and CFF 001 to fill as the party’s candidate.
Representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were also at the primary election, while police and the State Security Service were at hand to provide adequate security.
Addressing the delegates before the commencement of the state congress, the leader of the Ekiti State APC Primary Election, Senator Izunaso said the congress was in compliance with Article 20 (3) of the constitution of the party which stipulated that there must be direct congress from
the ward, local government to state levels.
He described the APC as the fastest growing opposition political party, adding that the party was determined to flush out the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government from the centre in 2015.
Fayemi, in his acceptance speech, branded APC as a democratic party founded on the platform of internal democracy, saying  what the party had done remained  a worthy model and  part of the ways to consolidate the democratic culture in the country.
He said his emergence as the flag bearer had shown the supports he enjoyed in APC and among Ekiti populace, praising the party for its doggedness and supports in the last few years, assuring that the party would next election would be won in a landslide victory.
Also in Osun State, Governor Rauf Aregbesola scored highest votes during the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was declared the governorship candidate of the party in the August 9 election in the state.
After the collation of the results from each of the 30 Local Government Areas at the Nelson Mandela freedom park in Osogbo, the state capital, Aregbesola was declared winner and announced as the candidate of the party in the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to the chairman of the Osun APC electoral committee for the primary election, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai out of 355,729 total votes of delegates from all the 332 wards across the state, Aregbesola got 269,631.
While explaining that the party did not prevent any of its members from contesting the governorship ticket of APC, El-Rufai said no one came out to contest it with Aregbesola and maintained that the election was transparent and devoid of violence.
He said the party believed in democracy and would adopt all the programmes and policies of Governor Aregbesola if it took over the government at the centre.
Responding to his overwhelming victory at the party primary election, Aregbesola assured that the party would win the August 9 governorship.
According to him “we do not need any change in the state; rather, we need a change at the centre.”
Aregbesola promised to use all means to battle the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
Aregbesola insisted that violence alone could not help the PDP win the election and that the people of Osun state could not be deceived with money, advising PDP not to engage in violence in the forthcoming election
