Nasarawa APC stronger after defection of lawmakers – Chairman

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Nasarawa State said on Thursday that the party would be stronger despite the defection of two lawmakers to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
Stanley Buba, the Interim State Chairman of the party, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lafia that the recent defections would not affect the fortunes of APC in the state.
Ahmed Kana (APC-Karu/Kokona/Keffi) and Nathaniel Agyomesa (APC-Lafia North state constituency) recently defected to the PDP. The PDP now has 20 of the 24 members of the Nasarawa Assembly.
Mr. Buba described the action of the two legislators as good omen and not a setback for APC.
“Not very long ago, the honourable boasted in a television programme that he will be the
last person to leave the APC for PDP.
“All of a sudden, he woke up and said he was joining PDP. You try and find out, there is something wrong with such a person,” he said.
Mr. Buba explained that the defection would clear the way for new purposeful aspirants to win their seats in 2015 and satisfy the yearnings of the people.
“Since their defection, nobody followed them. No one person has come out to say they are celebrating the news. No serious attention has been given to the defections.
“Rather the vacuum created by their defection will give other politicians opportunity to prove themselves,” he said.
Commenting on the ongoing APC congresses, the chairman commended Governor Tanko Al-Makura, and party members for making the exercise a huge success.
He said that the congress was characterised by transparency and fairness, and urged the party members to maintain the spirit beyond 2015.
Mr. Buba advised PDP elected local government council chairmen who refused to swear in APC councilors in their areas to respect the electoral law.
“There are some PDP local government chairmen who refused to swear in APC councilors in their areas.
“I think it is time to approach the Attorney-General of the state to report this, because this is not just a matter of if we are going to tribunal or not,” he said.
While commiserating with the families of the victims of Monday’s Abuja bomb blast, Mr. Buba urged them to remain law abiding and report suspicious movements to security agencies to prevent further loss of lives and property in the country.
