The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State has refuted
speculations from some sections of the media that the Supervising
Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike is set to resign his appointment in
other to start gearing up for the 2015 governorship campaign in the
state.
The report had quoted a source from Wike’s camp as saying that the
minister had submitted his resignation letter to the President to contest as governor in Rivers State but that President Jonathan was yet to approve his resignation.
The report went further to say that Wike’s intention to contest
for Rivers guber position has already got support from the President because the presidency identified the education minister as the only candidate eligible to deliver Rivers State for the People Democratic Party, PDP.
However, the PDP in the statement signed by Jerry Needam, Media aide
to the state Party Chairman, Felix Obuah said Wike remains the
Supervisory Minister for Education.
The PDP called on “its members and the general public to discountenance this concocted, false, misleading and calumnious speculation, which we are aware, is a creation by mischief makers and enemies of the Honourable Minister and the Party.
“The PDP also warns its teaming members and the general public not to be deceived by falsehood emanating from political opponents, particularly, the All Progressives Congress, APC, but to be steadfast and more committed to the struggle of liberating the people and the State from neo-colonialism and bad governance by the APC folks”.
The PDP said it was aware that “this conjecture of falsehood is part of the many strategies employed by the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the opposition in their efforts to provoke public discomfort against the genuine programmes and activities of the majority Party (the PDP) in the State and the nation.
The party said it has put in place modalities to check and thwart every of such ill-conceived plan against its successes by the opposition parties, particularly the APC.
