The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party,
PDP, yesterday stated that the party was not
perfect having erred in the past. It however
declared that the All Progressives Congress,
APC, was not an option after all.
Speaking yesterday when he received the PDP
forum of zonal publicity secretaries in his office
at the party’s national secretariat, Abuja,
National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh
stressed that in the midst of security challenges,
President Goodluck Jonathan was still
performing.
“Like in democratic setting, no one is perfect,
the PDP is not perfect, yes Nigerians expect us
to be better than we are, but Nigerians truly
know that our competitor (opposition) is not an
option, ” he said.
Metuh reiterated his party’s stand on the state of
insecurity in the country when said, “the fact
that some of these insurgents have been
financed by people who were encouraged by the
hard stance, utterances, statements made by
these opposition leaders, when people are
statesmen, we don’t expect them to speak in
pursuance of their personal
interest.
“We are happy today that they have chosen the
path of wisdom to temper their voice, they have
heeded our call. I think our statement was
positive in the sense that they have moderated
the views, utterances of the opposition leaders.
We are happy we did that, the party stands by
that statement and have had profound effect on
the body polity”
The PDP spokesperson who noted that the
opposition has resulted to insulting the
President of the country, national chairman of
the PDP, the party and every other person
because of dearth of opinion and ideology, said,
“the statement of the opposition always is
definitely as ugly as their looks and their actions,
it is a product of frustration, resentment against
their creator, because anybody that is happy
with himself, a fulfilled human being will be
cautious in his statements and the way he insults
others”.
He congratulated the President Goodluck
Jonathan led administration for the successful
hosting of the World Economic Forum on Africa
despite the security challenges in the country.
“Never in the history of this country have we had
such challenges come at a very critical time of
our development, we are saddened by the
abduction of the Girls of Government Secondary
School in Chibok”.
On party politics, the spokesman said “Our
mantra is that of power to the people in a
democratic setting, it is not one man that
chooses his successor, or chose the people that
will contest election.”
He added that the party will never play politics
with human lives, saying the government will
work hard to ensure security of lives and
property.
Earlier, chairman of the forum zonal publicity
secretaries of PDP and South-South zonal
publicity secretary, Ali Odeifa expressed the
loyalty of the forum to President Jonathan,
Adamu Mu’azu and the National Working
Committee (NWC) of the party.
He lauded the president’s effort on insecurity
and his wisdom in accepting assistance from
foreign countries.
The delegation included; Emmanuel Okpokpo
(south-South), Al-Amin San (North East),
Taofeeq Ganiyu (South West) and Suleman
Mohammed (North Central).
