Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, has
declared that the All Progressives Congress
(APC) would resist rigging in the 2015 general
elections insisting that Imo people would be out
to protect their votes.
Governor Okorocha stated this during the APC
congress held in Owerri, which elected Dr. Hillary
Eke as the state chairman of the party.
“We are here to protect democracy and make it
work in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Our
slogan in APC is “No rigging” or “Rig and die”
and we are determined to ensure free and fair
election at all times. In our party, we don’t
discuss how to snatch ballot boxes or papers but
how to win legitimately in elections and by the
grace of God, in 2015, victory will be ours,” he
said.
He said since APC came into power in the state,
things have changed for better and charged the
new state executive to make the party stronger.
He assured that the legislative and executive
arms of the state government would not interfere
in the functions of the party executives.
In his response, the Imo State chairman of the
APC, Dr. Hillary Eke, thanked the governor and
other party delegates for the privilege giving him
and his team to serve, promising that they would
uphold the party’s manifesto and make its
Constitution their guiding principle.
Chairman state organizing congress committee
Mr. Paul Chukwuma thanked governor
Okorocha for the confidence reposed in them
while the INEC resident electoral commissioner
in the state, Prof Selina Okoh commended the
APC leaders and delegates for complying with
the rules which made the congress a huge
success.
