The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar and the
governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, have
called on Nigerians not to link the activities of the
Boko Haram sect to Islam.
They both said this in Ibadan, on Friday, while
inaugurating the Bodija estate and environs Muslim
Community Islamic Centre.
The Sultan, who is the President-General of the
Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, said Islam was a
religion of peace, hence the need for Muslims to
continue to live peacefully with non-Muslims in their
respective domains.
He urged Muslims to always emulate the act of Prophet
Mohammed in their daily activities.
In his remarks, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, also
denounced the public misconception of associating
terrorism to Islam, stating that it is a religion of peace.
The governor enjoined communities to always play
active roles in Islamic activities, for the development of
the religion, stressing that, whatever they did here
on
earth, especially building of mosques, they would reap
the benefits hereafter.
In his lecture entitled ‘The Role of Mosque in Islam,’
the Chief Imam, University of Ilorin Central Mosque,
Professor Abdul-Ganiyy Oladosu, said mosques had the
potential of uniting Islamic faithful without
discrimination.
He said mosques also played important role in health
care delivery and also, provided education to Muslims
about health care, both preventive and emergency
aspects.
Professor Oladosu described mosques as a place where
community social functions such as marriage, eid party
and other ceremonies could take place with Islamic
