EKITI 2014: PDP plans to put key party leaders under house arrest on election day —APC
Ahead of the June 21 governorship election in
Ekiti State, the All Progressives Congress (APC),
in the state, has alleged that the opposition
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is planning to
place APC leaders in the 16 local government
areas of the state “under house arrest on the day
of the election.”
According to a statement by the Kayode Fayemi
Campaign Organisation, made available to
newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, on Thursday, “this is to
create fear in the minds of the followers of such
leaders, who may become jittery and decide to
stay away from polling units, thereby leading to
voter apathy.”
According to the statement signed by the
spokesperson of the campaign, Mr Dimeji
Daniels, “this plan is to be executed with fake
policemen who are currently being recruited and
trained by the PDP,” and added that “some of
these fake policemen trained in Osun and Ondo
states, are already assigned to the PDP
candidate, Ayo Fayose, and his Labour Party
(LP) counterpart, Opeyemi Bamidele.”
He said: “We call on the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC), to be above
board in the discharge of its duties. The APC and
the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, will
accept nothing less than a free, fair and credible
election, deemed so, not just in the warped eyes
of PDP, but in the eyes of the international
community and all believers in the right of the
people to freely choose their leaders.”
