2015: Plateau PDP Crisis Deepens
Following the crisis presently rocking the Plateau
State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
the embattled state chairman, Dr Haruna Dabin has
said that he has uncovered plans by the party
secretary to create disunity among members of the
party in the state.
The party chairman in a press release yesterday in
Jos, disclosed that the party secretary in the state has
dished out invitations of a meeting of the State
Executive Committee (SEC) to hold today, 16th June,
2014.
Dr Dabin disassociated himself from the purported
meeting, and said the party secretary was not directed
to call for the said meeting.
“The chairman and members of the State Working
Committee (SWC) are not aware of the purported
meeting as convened by the state secretary,” he
stated.
Dr Dabin, therefore, called on those invited to the
said meeting to disregard the call by the secretary,
emphasising that the secretary lacks constitutional
rights to call for such gathering without directives
from the party chairman.
The press release reads in part, “The attention of the
state PDP chairman, Dr Haruna Dabin, has been
drawn to a press statement purported to have been
issued by the state secretary of the party convening a
meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) on
Monday, 16th June, 2014 at the Presidential Lodge,
Jos.
“Members of the State Executive Committee (SEC)
should disregard the notice and press statements
convening the purported meeting as the
aforementioned convener lacks the constitutional
powers to convene such a meeting.”
“An emergency meeting of the State Working
Committee had earlier been slated for Monday, 16th
June, 2014 by 10am at the State Secretariat of the
party”.
