President Goodluck Jonathan has taken a
huge step to reward the soldiers in the frontline against the war
against Boko Haram by approving an undisclosed sum to be added as an
increment to their operational allowance.
Previously, soldiers were paid N1500
per day as operational allowance which amounts to N45,000 per month,
however the Army would deduct N500 in order to cater to soldiers welfare
such as feeding. This situation was said to be disagreeable to the
soldiers.
No word has been given on the amount of
increment to the allowance approved by President Jonathan, however
sources say it is a welcome development and will boost the morale of the
men and women fighting to save Northern Nigeria from being overrun by
the insurgent group.
Chief Of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-General
Kenneth Minimah was reportedly instrumental to lobbying President
Jonathan to approve the raise.
