Breaking News: Soldiers Hold Tambuwal Hostage, Insist on Searching Speaker’s Car
Soldiers attached to a venue of international conference on
security and development challenges of pastoralism in West and
central Africa organised by the Office of the National Security
Adviser (ONSA), Monday insisted that they must search the car
of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu
Waziri Tambuwal.
The incident, which occurred at Hotel 17 venue of the
conference at Kaduna, was condemned by Tambuwal’s
spokesperson, Malam Imam Imam, who decried it as a conduct
that undermines the institution of the legislature.
“It is not about the person of the Speaker, but the office he is
occupying. What we expect is for the security agents to show
respect for the office of the Number 4 citizen of the country, ”
he said.
The Speaker is the Number Four in protocol hierarchy in the
Federation, after the President, Vice-President, and the Senate
President.
Following the brief restriction of the movement of his official
car by the soldiers, Tambuwal got angry and trekked into the
venue.
