Ekiti2014: APC alleges PDP thugs kill member

Mr. Ojo Olujobi, a member of the All Progressive Congress, (APC), Ekiti chapter, was reportedly hacked to death, yesterday by thugs linked to the Peoples Democratic party, (PDP). The middle-aged man was said to have been returning from a peaceful rally in Ikota, a community in Ekiti East Local Government area when he was attacked by the thugs. According to the state chapter of APC, the killing is coming less than one week after an assassination attempt was made on the life of the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi. In a statement issued by Mr. Segun Dipe, the APC spokesperson in the state said, Olujobi was gruesomely clubbed to death at Isinbode by armed thugs of the PDP. Dipe said the APC leadership in Ekiti sent a fact finding group to the community when it was informed of the fracas. The APC said it was informed by the Isinbode traditional authority that Olujobi, after the rally, was sitting in the front of his father’s house when rampaging PDP thugs, after they had caused havoc at the Ikota area moved to Isinbode where they attacked APC members who were returning from a rally. Dipe noted that a local member of PDP , Folamide Goke in Isinbode led the violent attack on the APC members which claimed the life of a man. ‘Olujobi was hacked to death yesterday evening by PDP thugs. His father collapsed when he heard about the murder of his son. Dipe said on Tuesday morning, “This is the second incidence of direct attacks by PDP thugs that have led to death in the past two months since Mr. Fayose was nominated to lead the PDP campaign in Ekiti State” The APC said it has lodged complaint with the police authority adding that the PDP in the past few weeks has launched a calculated onslaught to scare away voters and create a state of siege. Dipe listed Taiwo Akinola and Olujobi as the two indigenes that the PDP thugs have murdered in the past months. According to reports from Eagles Online Dipe said this was apart from the various cases of violent attacks on APC members like the attack on the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Ronke Okusanya and the State’s Commissioner for Regional Integration, Mr. Niyi Afuye which led to the arrest and illegal detention of the later. “This moment of grief, we stand hand-in-hand with the family of Olujobi. We call on Ekiti people to remain calm in the face of deliberate provocation. We assure Ekiti, Nigerians and the international community that those perpetrating these grievous crimes against humanity will be brought to justice,” Dipe said.
