Kano ‘ll be great under Sanusi — Kwankwaso

Kano State governor, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed optimism that great reform will be witnessed in Kano with the appointment of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as its new emir based on his vast western and Islamic education, as well as his wealth of experience in the public and private sectors of the economy. This is just as the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Mustapha Haruna Rashid, commended Governor Kwankwaso for managing the riot that erupted well, recalling that similar riots had taken longer periods in certain places. Kwankwaso noted that “the appointment of Sanusi would be a blessing to the people of the state, looking at his rich credentials and exposure. I hope that people would cooperate with him to enable him to serve them better.” He made the assertion on Wednesday at the Government House, Kano, while receiving the former Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Rashid, who visited the state to commiserate with the citizens over the demise of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero and to congratulate the new emir, Alhaji Sanusi. According to him, the present administration was committed towards choosing the best for the people of the state in all areas of human endeavours, pointing out that this was what a leader was supposed to do for his people, as anything less would be counter-productive to the society. Kwankwaso thanked the Emir of Gwandu for offering condolences to the people of Kano and for making encouraging observations in respect of the ongoing physical transformation in the state. Earlier, AlhajiRashid said that the late emir, Ado Bayero, had done a lot for the progress of Islam not only in the state but in the nation, praying that Allah would grant him eternal rest. The emir of Gwandu said in 1915, it took 40 days of rioting when one of his great grandfathers was appointed Emir of Gwandu. The emir spoke elaborately about the ongoing infrastructural revolution in the state, appealing to Nigerian governors to emulate Governor Kwankwaso’s vision so as to make the country great, particularly in the area of education. Meanwhile, the move being made by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar and other prominent personalities across the country to broker truce between the sons of former Emir of Kano and the new Emir of Knao, Sanusi, may have been yielding positive results with no fewer than five of the late Bayero’s sons paying the new emir homage at the weekend, after a week of his appointment. This was just as the eldest son of the late emir of Kano, Ciroma Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero, district head of Gwale Local Government Area of the state, who was earlier rimoured to have been appointed as emir, was yet to pay a visit to the new emir of Kano. It will be recalled that the late emir left behind 62 children. The late Ado Bayero died Friday June 7, after spending about 53 years on the throne.
