OYO LP removes Apapa as chairman •‘I’m still the chairman’
THE Labour Party (LP), Oyo State chapter, last week,
removed the former chairman of the party, Mr Lamidi
Basiru Apapa, in a resolution agreed upon during an
emergency meeting of the party state executive held at
the party secretariat, Dugbe, Ibadan.
The party agreed that Adeola Adepoju should lead the
party in an acting capacity to prevent leadership
vacuum.
The party, in a communique issued at the end of an
emergency meeting jointly signed by over 50 local
government chairmen and secretaries, stated that “the
decision of the party was sequel to the breach of the
Article 19 B of our party’s constitution with impunity by
Mr Apapa.”
It stated that the decision was in line with article 17 of
the party constitution adding that, “Mr Apapa has been
removed as the Oyo State chairman of Labour Party.
The decision was made by 54 members of the Oyo
State Executive Council (SEC), who attended the special
congress convened for the purpose on July 11, 2014 as
stipulated in our party constitution.
Meanwhile, Mr Apapa has insisted that he remains the
chairman of the party in Oyo State.
In his statement, he said, “I am still the chairman.”
