GROUP DEMANDS THAT CP JOSEPH MBU PUBLICLY PARADE THE 6 SUSPECTS ARRESTED WITH ARMS AND AMMUNITION BY THE JOINT TASK FORCE AND HANDED OVER TO HIM

On the 4th of January 2014, we received the information that the Joint Military Task Force operating in Rivers State arrested six young men bearing seven AK47 rifles, 146 rounds of 7.62mm Special life ammunition and 10 life magazines among others around Ekporo Road Rivers State on their way to Ogu. The Joint Military Task force gave the names of those arrested as Daniel Ibito-Anga, Sunday Elisha, Uche Jenikachi, Ibinabo Lawson, Okechukwu Okoro and one other. The Joint Military Task Force has confirmed handing over the six suspects to the Police in line with constitutional practices.

Following the handing over of the suspects to the Police in Rivers State led by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Joseph Mbu, a lot of people have expressed worry on the where about of the suspects as they are alleged to be connected to political heavy weights in Rivers State and Abuja. This speculations will call to question the integrity of the Nigerian Police, put fears on the citizens of Rivers state and likely cause a break down of law and order as people may take the law into their hands in Rivers State and Nigeria at large.

It is on this note that we the members of the Movement for Accountability and Good Governance MAGG demand that the six arrested suspects be publicly paraded by the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr Joseph Mbu.

We believe that this action as often practised by the Nigerian Police will restore the confidence of the people of Rivers State and Nigerians on the Police and douse the tension and fear presently in Rivers State.
Our demand is in line with the tenet of accountability and openness in the handling of matters of national concern and importance, especially when it concerns the security of lives and properties.
