Sixteen local council chairmen elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Kwara State defected on Friday with members of their councils to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The council chairmen, who came together under the platform of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (Algon), Kwara State chapter, led their vice- chairmen, 80 supervisory councillors and 193 elected councillors to make their public declaration at a press conference held in Ilorin.
The chairman of the association, Abdullateef Okandeji, read the text of the defectors address after which each of the council chairmen, one after another, made remarks to confirm their defection.
He said that they decided to dump the party “due to the refusal and failure of the national leaders of the PDP to address the observations and complaints of its founding member especially about the impunity and injustice which had become the norm and lead to factionalisation of the PDP”.
