PORTHARCOURT—A House of Representatives member, Mr Dakuku Peterside, has demanded an apology from the Peoples  Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, for alleging that he made effort to block  the  clearance of General Kenneth  Minimah as Chief of Army Staff in the National Assembly.
Describing the allegation as malicious and deliberate falsehood,  Peterside, who represents Andoni Opobo Nkoro federal constituency in the House, in a statement, yesterday, said the party should apologize to him over the alleged falsehood.
He said that there was no way he would have tried to block the emergence of General Minimah, who is one of his constituents, from being confirmed as Chief of Army Staff, adding that the PDP deliberately chose to distort the truth.
He said: “It has been brought to my notice, the deliberate falsehood and malicious mischief being circulated by the Rivers State chapter of PDP to the effect that I blocked the clearance of Major-Gen. Minimah as Chief of Army Staff in the National Assembly. Nothing can be farther from the truth.
“This is patently cheap lies by PDP to curry favor from their paymasters in Abuja that have consistently promoted division amongst people and elevated impunity to new heights.  Common sense will tell any broad-minded person that I am one person out of 360 members of the House that cannot, on my own, block the clearance of anybody in the National Assembly more so my constituent, friend and relative.
“My duty in the National Assembly is primarily lawmaking and representational. That duty of representation I owe primarily to my constituents including Gen. Mininmah, whom I have related with over the years and have come to have great respect for as a gentleman, honest and hardworking patriot.”
