Speculations surrounding the senatorial ambition of the Niger State
governor, Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu in the next year’s general elections
was put to rest on Tuesday, as the governor has confirmed that people
were already putting pressures on him to contest the Niger East
Senatorial District election at the expiration of his eight years
tenure, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), next
year.
He, however, stated that he was yet to respond to such calls, saying
“I have been consulted by some PDP leaders in Niger State to run for the
Senate in a bid to continue to offer myself for service on behalf of
the people but I have not given them a response”.
Aliyu
made the disclosure when the Council of turbaned chiefs of Minna
Emirate council paid him Easter homage at the government house, Minna.
He stated that he does not have plans for political positions, but
God does the plan for him. He explained how he emerged in 2007 as the
governor of the state, as well as, how he became a member of the House
of Representative, during the Shagari era of the aborted second
republic, on the platform of the defunct National Party of Nigeria
(NPN).
While commenting on the cordial relationship existing between him and
his deputy, Honourable Ahmed Musa Ibeto, Governor Aliyu described Ibeto
as a loyal deputy governor.
