FORMER governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, has been
described as the beacon of hope of the masses in the state, an attribute
that would eventually lead to his emergence as the next governor in
2015.
Giving this description was a chieftain of Accord Party and leading
chairmanship aspirant in Egbeda Local Government Area of the state,
Chief Bamidele Adeniji, who added that Ladoja remained the best man that
could lead the state to its safe haven.
Adeniji,
in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday, said though, the
current government, led by Senator Abiola Ajimobi, had done its best in
eradicating crime and giving the state capital a facelift, there was the
need for a holistic approach to governance.
“People’s welfare should not be sacrificed for any reform. Their
well-being should be paramount in the agenda of any government. If you
build the people, they will build whatever institution you are putting
in place,” he said.
The Accord Party chieftain said, with the development, the state
needed people like Ladoja, who would be able to effect its welfarist
approach to governance and help restore the confidence of the masses in
their government.
According to him, at present, no one was contesting the governorship
slot of the
party with Ladoja, because every other member of the party
“see him as the leader and the hope of the masses.”
Speaking on the age of the former governor, he said Ladoja “is
mentally alert and physically fit” to govern the state, adding that it
was not age that mattered, but experiences.
