The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State deepened on Sunday as  a chieftain, Alhaji AbdulRasheed Adebisi Olopoenia warned former senate leader, Teslim Folarin to desist from parading himself as the governorship candidate of the party in the state or face sanction.
He said that Folarin should respect the constitution of the party by going through the primaries and should not cause disunity among the other nine aspirants jostling for the governorship seat in the party.
Addressing journalists on the state of the party in the state on Sunday, Olopoenia said nobody gave Senator Folarin the ticket and “if he has it, he should show it to the world to see and not cause
confusion in our party.
“We have 10 governorship aspirants in PDP and one of them is former governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, who rose from being a chairman of a council, deputy governor and later governor. Does he think he is bigger than him, or does he think he can floor Engineer Seyi Makinde who is a grassroots mobiliser and a friend of the masses? Or is it Professor Soji Adejumo, Azeem Gbolarumi, and Engineer Femi Babalola who are all grassroots mobilisers too?” he queried.
According to him, Folarin won election into the Senate with just 11 local governments in Ibadan and we have 33 council areas in this state.
“Does he think he can win in the other 22? In Osun and Ekiti states recently, Mr Ayo Fayose and Senator Iyiola Omisore, they are grassroots mobilisers that  emerged governorship candidates in these respective states through primary elections, because everybody knows their capability and same will be done in Oyo”.
Speaking against the backdrop that he had the backing of the president and other PDP chieftains, he said President Jonathan does not have any anointed candidate in any state, adding that he believes in following the constitution of the party.
“Same applies to the National Chairman of our party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu and the Oyo PDP Chairman, Mr Yinka Taiwo. No PDP elder statesman has anointed him also, so I will advice him to wait for the outcome of the ward primaries and should not cause rancour among the member,” he said
Olopoenia further disclosed that among the present 10 governorship aspirants, the party has a good candidate that will defeat Governor Abiola Ajimobi in 2015.
