Ekiti PDP primaries: Kudos to President Jonathan misunderstanding

I want commend President Goodluck Jonathan for wading into the misunderstanding among the political players in the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
While former Governor Ayo Fayose won the party’s primaries, the other aspirants wanted a consensus candidate.

It was getting to a situation whereby the other candidates were planning not to support Mr Fayose in the June 21 election. However, Mr President, Dr Jonathan, who is the leader of the party, had a meeting with the contestants at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, where he settled their differences.
He, therefore, called on them to give their maximum support to the candidate, Mr Fayose.
With this, the PDP is on its way to reclaim the governorship seat in Ekiti.
I want to commend Mr President again for acting like a real father by settling the differences between these aspirants; he also acted like a real democrat in allowing the primaries to stand. Consensus candidacy is  not really democratic. The president has given his support to all the aspirants  to test their popularity at the primaries.
Apart from Ekiti State, the same thing also happened in Osun State, where Senator Iyiola Omisore has emerged as the PDP governorship candidate for the forthcoming gubernatorial
election.
There is no doubt that the PDP will win both the Ekiti and Osun states’ elections. This will then pave the way for other states, especially Lagos State, to be taken over by the party in 2015.
The most important thing, however, is the support the region will give to Dr Jonathan during the 2015 presidential election.
At the moment, there is nobody in the oppositions’ camps who is capable of defeating Mr President at the polls. It is not because of the incumbency factor, but because of what Dr Jonathan has done for the country. He, therefore, needs another term to complete his good works.

Tunde Ogundele,
Ado-Ekiti,
Ekiti State
