Northern Governors To Deliberate On Nyako’s Letter On Thursday
Northern Governors under the aegis of the Northern Governors Forum (NGF) will meet on Thursday to deliberate on Governor Murtala Nyako’s vituperative memo which was addressed to them last week. The Adamawa State Governor had blamed President Jonathan for the insurgency in the North-East and accused the President of a sinister genocide motive against the country’s North.
“Clearly the victims of the Administration’s evil-mindedness are substantially Northern Nigerians. The administration is bent on bringing wars in the North between Muslim and Christians and within them and between one ethnic group and another or others in various communities in the region. Cases of mass murders by its bloody minded killers and cut-throats are well known, but it attributes the killings to so-called Boko-Haram. Thousands of our young girls and boys have been kidnapped by clearly organised militia in the last few years and kidnapping is now a random affair all over the far North. These organized kidnappers must have the backing of the Federal administration for them to move about freely with abducted children just as those who convey ammunitions
and explosives from the Ports to the safe-houses of so called Boko-Haram in the North. Hurrah we are no longer being deceived!”, Governor Nyako had stated in his missive.
In its riposte, the Presidency had described Nyako’s letter as “an unmitigated leadership disaster” which “unfortunately exposes him as lacking a sense of history as well as incapable of rising above parochial sentiments and possessing a morbid hatred for facts and truth in public discourse. It is extremely divisive and intentionally meant to incite one section of the country against the other”.
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary Danladi Ndayebo, the Governor of Niger State, Dr Babangida Aliyu said;”The forum is now in receipt of Nyako’s memo and would look at the concerns raised by Admiral Nyako with a view to addressing the issues, the forum will also discuss the memorandum submitted to it by Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State, where he raised several concerns about the insurgency in the North”.
The NGF will also interface with the Miyetti Allah Fulani Cattle Breeders Association with a view to bringing an end to the incessant clashes between cattle grazers and farmers. The meeting will make a case for the provision of grazing fields and articulate the development of a pastoral policy for itinerant herdsmen in the country.
Unknown Fulani hersdmen have killed several and destroyed farmlands in Benue, Adamawa and Plateau States (among others) since the turn of the year.
