Benue 2015: Senate Seat Not Meant For Young Politicians – Gemade
A former national chairman of the ruling
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and senator
representing Benue North East, Senator
Barnabas Gemade has broken silence over
the controversy surrounding the political
battle between him and Governor Gabriel
Suswam over the 2015 National Assembly
ticket, saying senate seat is not meant for
young politicians.
Gemade stated this in an interview with
newsmen in Makurdi, Weekend, on the
occasion of the his disbursement of
scholarship funds to 140 Benue
undergraduate students. He stated that his
re-election to the senate has already been
guaranteed and insisted that he is not
threatened by the contentious ambition of
Governor Suswam to contest the senate seat
against him because he (Gemade) had
contributed immensely to the governors’
political growth.
Asserting that his bid to run for the race is
borne out of his determination to impact
rapid development to his constituents, the
PDP elder insisted that those who speak
with God in heaven already know that his
senatorial ambition is determined
irrevocably and that those speculating that
he is jittery are only beating about the bush.
“My return to senate has been guaranteed
and those who speak with God in heaven
already know that it is guaranteed but those
who do not speak with the almighty will
continue to beat about the bush. To me, I
know that the issue is already been settled.
I am not threatened by Gabriel Suswam, he
is my political son and i had contributed
immensely in making him grow politically.
Proverbially, there has been no such time
that a young one would decide which piece
of meat to pick from the soup when dining
with the elders because the elders will
always pick first and decide what the young
ones will then take.” Gemade stated.
Commenting on his scholarship initiative,
the senator said he has so far expended over
N200 million on the student project and
added that he had also provided jobs for the
teeming unemployed youths of his
constituency, the state and country.
