THE ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on
Tuesday, maintained that poverty of ideas has
caused the frustration of the opposition in the
country.
The party observed that the opposition has
resorted to personal attacks and insults on
President Goodluck Jonathan because of
absence of ideology in their camp.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party,
Chief Olisa Metuh, made these assertions when
the PDP Forum of Zonal Publicity Secretaries
paid a courtesy visit to the party national
secretariat in Abuja.
Reiterating the party’s earlier stance on the
utterances of leaders of the opposition heating
up the polity, Metuh insisted that such
opposition statements also embolden insurgents
in the country.
He also opined that the PDP has provided a level
playing field for party members in its belief that
power belongs
to the people.
“Our mantra is that power belongs to the people
in a democratic setting. It is not one man that
chooses his successor, or chooses the people
that will contest election,” he added.
Citing the successful hosting of the just
concluded World Economic Forum (WEF) on
Africa, PDP stressed that President Jonathan
had been able to remain focused in the midst of
enormous security challenges in the country.
Speaking earlier, chairman of the Forum of
Zonal Publicity Secretaries of PDP and South-
South Zonal Publicity Secretary, Ali Odeifa,
pledged the loyalty of the forum to President
Jonathan and the national leadership of the
PDP.
