Abubakar Shehu Abubakar is new Emir of Gombe
After a long stay of 11 days without an emir, since the
death of late emir Alhaji Shehu Usman Abubakar last
month a new Emir of Gombe has emerged and he is
Abubakar Shehu Abubakar.
The late emir died on 27th May at a London hospital,
following a long battle with cancer and was buried in
Gombe three days after in Gombe at a funeral that was
attended by thousands of people who cut across
traditional, religious and political figures from different
parts of the country.
Abubakar, aged 38, is an executive director of Universal
Touch Nigeria Limited, Gombe.
He was a supervisory council representing Ajiya ward of
Gombe local government council from 2006-2007 and a
graduate of political science from the University of
Maiduguri.
Until his elevation to the throne, Abubakar held the
traditional title of Santurakin Gombe.
His letter of appointment was presented to him on
behalf of Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, by the
Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Abubakar
Sule Bage.
After the death of the former emir,the state government
reconstituted the kingmakers’ council to recommend
three names for approval and subsequent appointment
of a new emir.
“Based on the three names of the names submitted to
the governor for his approval and after wide
consultations, the governor finally approved the first
name on the list and he is Abubakar Shehu Abubakar,”
Bage said.
He congratulated the new emir and advised him to carry
everyone along and be loyal to the government.
The acting chairman of the kingmakers’ council,
Ubandoman Gombe, Alhaji Magaji Mu’azu, said the
council received 10 applications from eligible
candidates for the post and after deliberations submitted
three names for consideration and approval.
