Ekiti election: US commends INEC, security agencies
The U.S Mission in Nigeria has congratulated INEC, security
agencies and electoral stakeholders for the successful conduct
of the June 21 gubernatorial election in Ekiti.
A statement issued by the embassy in Abuja on Monday
commended INEC for overseeing “a credible, efficient
process”, which it said, by all accounts, reflected the will of
Ekiti voters.
Further, it commended the security forces for collaborating
effectively and providing a safe and secure environment free of
major incidents.
“The parties and their supporters acted responsibly during and
after the election and the magnanimity exhibited by all
candidates afterwards speaks highly of them and the people of
Ekiti.
“That more than 50 per cent of registered voters turned out to
make their voices heard bodes well for the future of Nigeria’s
democracy,” the US statement stated.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that Gov. Kayode Fayemi,
the APC governorship candidate , had already congratulated the
governor-elect, Mr Ayo Fayose of the PDP.
President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP had also
congratulated the governor-elect, while the APC National
Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, had welcomed the
incumbent governor’s position on the election.
