PDP warns APC govs against ‘invading’ Ekiti with thugs •Police, APC react

Ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors to stay away from Ekiti, during the election, saying any effort made by them to invade the state will be resisted by the people. The party also alleged that it has it on good authority that the APC had imported thugs and militants from Lagos and other South West states as well as Rivers and Edo sates to wreak havoc on the electorate during the June 21 election, calling the police to act fast and botch the plan. Calling on the police to act promptly and dislodge the militants, he alleged are being kept in the Government House, the PDP, however, expressed that it has no confidence in the police and the Independent National Electoral Commission with the way they have been handling some issues concerning the conduct of the forthcoming poll. At a press conference in Ado Ekiti on Monday, a top member of the party and minister-designate, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, warned the APC governors against interfering in Ekiti election, saying doing so could provoke the people to taking spontaneous reaction that could cause crisis in the state. Adeyeye said, “We warn the APC governors against invading our state. We are not asking the PDP governors to interfere in Ekiti for us and we expect that the APC must do same because coming to Ekiti may provoke very serious reaction from our people.” But the police in the state through their Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Victor Babayemi, assured while speaking at a public enlightenment forum in Ado Ekiti that there won’t be room for fake policemen or soldiers to perpetrate evil during the election. Babayemi said only the constitutionally recognized security outfits in the country would be allowed to mount the roads as well as polling areas. Refuting the allegation, the APC Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Segun Dipe, said the allegation represented what the PDP was planning for Ekiti people and likened the PDP’s allegation to what he referred to as “revised psychology.”
