Why we want to impeach Governor Amaechi – Bapakaye Bipi

Evans, who represents Ogu/ Bolo constituency said the state Governor, Amaechi has committed several impeachable offences in recent times and therefore“must be removed from office”. The lawmaker told Saturday Independent that Amaechi allegedly embezzled the N40billion monorail project, took the House of Assembly to Government House where they were sitting, grounded the state judiciary and refused to pay lawmakers’ allowances. He also accused the governor of diverting the state’s funds to sponsor the activities of the All Progressives Congress, APC and Boko Haram onslaught against Nigerians and the government of President Goodluck Jonathan. He said, “I can tell you that Governor Amaechi has been using our money to sponsor both APC and Boko Haram activities. We have to stop him. And he must account for all the money that has been coming to the state since 2007 that he became a governor”. “Many of the APC lawmakers have been in touch with me on telephone. They are willing to return to the PDP but they cannot do that now because of their allowances that government is owing them. I am their Speaker and I am willing to receive them back to the party because they know very well that APC cannot fly in Rivers state”. He further disclosed that the speaker of the House, Otelemaba Dan Amachree “has been discussing with me on the way forward. Like others, he has been in touch with me. They cannot decamp in a hurry because of what they are benefitting from the government at the moment. But it will not be too long when all this will change. “The former speaker knows that Amaechi has committed so many impeachable offences but there is nothing they can do to him because they are his friend”. “I am empowered by the court judgment to impeach governor Amaechi. So it is not a matter of whether he should be impeached or not. “But why is Amaechi afraid of impeachment if he has not committed any impeachable offence? He has no reason to be afraid if his hands are clean. He has the right to defend himself when he is served with the notice of his offences. He should not panic yet”, Evans said.
