EDO: Politicians must play by the rules – Deputy governor
The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dr Pius Odubu, has
appealed to Nigerian politicians to avoid acts that could pose
threat to the growth of democracy in Nigeria.
Odubu made the appeal on Thursday in Benin in an interview
with the News Agency of Nigeria.
He warned that the win-at-all-cost syndrome by some
politicians pose threat to the country’s fledgling democracy
and stressed the need for politicians to do everything they
could to discourage syndrome.
He said, “Politicians must play by the rule of the game to
ensure that we do not lose this golden opportunity we have
to practice democratic governance.
“Democracy
remains the best
form of
government; the
fact that we have
been able to
sustain it for 15
years is a plus
for us as a
nation.
“Yes we are
wobbling, but if
we are able to
sustain the democratic order, we will get it right.
“You may win election today and lost it tomorrow. If you
lose today, go and work harder and your fortune might be
different the next time around.
“So my appeal to politicians is to play the game in such a
way that we will not throw away this golden opportunity that
we have now.”
