I’m not in leadership contest—Fayose
The Ekiti State governor-elect, Mr Ayo Fayose said he was
not in leadership tussle with any leader of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) as being insinuated in some
quarters.
He said rather than engaging in leadership tussle, he would
support the party at all levels, to ensure that it reclaimed
the south-west part of the country, starting with the
forthcoming governorship election in Osun State.
Fayose, who spoke at a victory/solidarity rally organised
for him by the Ondo State chapter of the party, warned
against imposition of candidates as the general elections
draw near.
He said if the party was desirous of winning election in the
country, particularly in the south-west, unpopular
candidates should not be imposed on the people.
According to him, the party should allow aspirants for
elective posts to test their popularity among party
members, warning that imposing unpopular aspirants
might spell doom for the party.
He said: “Ekiti State election will continue to be a
reference point in the history of Nigeria, we were able to
win because we have the people with us, when they called
us different names the people of the state said it is Fayose
they want and we were able to do that because we are
popular with the people.
“I want to charge our leaders to ensure that there is no
imposition of candidates because it builds crisis in the
party, each time you are imposed, you are working against
God as the people you want to impose will be your
albatross at the end of the day.
“No imposition of candidates, only God makes a man, once
a popular candidate is picked, the election will surely be
won.”
Fayose however expressed his support for the move by the
PDP in Ondo State to win back the state in 2015, and also
to win the governorship election in 2016.
