How to tackle Boko Haram- Bamanga Tukur

Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Alhaji Bamangar Turkur has offered suggestions on how to tackle the menace of Boko Haram ravaging the Northeast part of the country, saying “We must create defence, create dialogue and use diplomacy in handling the insurgents.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday when the Niger Delta PDP Youth Movement paid him a courtesy call at his residence in Abuja, Tukur who is now the Chairman of the Nigeria Railway Corporation said that the Boko Haram crisis demands careful handling considering that the insurgents kill without mercy and
also take their lives without regard.

“As you know these are people who kill without mercy and even kill themselves without regard. We must create defence, create dialogue and create diplomacy in handling them so that we
can move forward”, he stressed

He frowned against undue criticism of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration arguing that the President means well for Nigeria hence should be appreciated and encouraged.

“This is our country. Patriotism, respect and obedience to leadership are very important. Not that you can’t criticise but if you must do you have to be constructive about it”, he said.

Appreciating the visit by the Niger Delta PDP Youth Movement, Tukur enjoined all men and women of goodwill in Nigeria to ensure that president Jonathan is re-elected.

According to him, “We should support our President (2015 General elections) because we need a bridge. It is God that gives power and so we should continue to support what God has shown to us. We must encourage him for continuity. We need stability. You don’t get to the middle of the sea you change the captain, you encourage him. We must mobilise to deliver Mr President and all others who have goodwill for our nation”

He described PDP as a great political party with tremendous followership nationwide and challenged its members to deepen that acceptance of the party and that can only be guaranteed when we toe the part of equity and Justice, he said.

In his address spokesperson of the group Barrister Alwell, Ezebunwo told Tukur that they were in his House on solidarity visit. They called on the North to fully support the re-election of president Jonathan while they would reciprocate their gesture in subsequent elections.

“We appeal to you to work with the president and the party…When our brother is returned elected South South shall back the North one hundred percent. We want you to work and support the Niger Delta Course”, he Said.
