NASS Will Not Compromise Nigeria’s Interest – Mark

GOODLUCK AND MARK

President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has reiterated that the National Assembly will stand and defend only those things that will engender peace and unity of Nigeria, even as he stated that the legislature has no conflicting roles with the
executive arm of government.
Senator Mark, in a press statement issued by his chief press secretary, Paul Mumeh stated that dividends of democracy would be delivered faster if the legislature and the executive arms of government worked in harmony in line with their constitutional mandates for the good of the citizenry.
Speaking at the Senator Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman Initiative empowerment programme in Okene Kogi State on Monday, Senator Mark stressed the need to abhor friction among
government functionaries, so the electorate could benefit from
government programmes and policies.
Apparently referring to the recent security challenges in which thousands of country men and women have lost their lives, Senator Mark pleaded for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, saying “there has to be peace for us to talk about development at any given point.
Government alone cannot guarantee peace, it is the cooperation of all of us, irrespective of political parties that can ensure peaceful co-existence.”
In his remarks Kogi State Governor Idris Wada praised Senator Abatemi- Usman for the initiative, saying his
efforts had fully complimented the programmes of government in
alleviating the plight of the ordinary people.
He said Abatemi had kept his electioneering campaign promises to the electorate, adding that “his action
is fulfilling and reassuring.”
Senator Abatemi stated that he was committed to the welfare of the people, pointing out that the empowerment scheme included human capital development, especially for the
youth.
About 1,207 persons and groups benefitted from the distribution of cars , buses, motorcycles, sewing machines, video cameras, generators among others.
