Nigeria cannot fight insurgency alone —Kalu

FORMER governor of Abia State, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, has urged the government of President Goodluck Jonathan, to seek the help of international security agencies in tackling the alarming rate of insurgency in the country.
The development came, even as he condemned the recent kidnap of over 200 students of the Federal Government Girls’ College, Chibok, in Borno State, lamenting that if our intelligence gathering was right, the students would have been located and reunited with their parents.
Kalu, who made the appeal while speaking with some journalists at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport on his way out of the country, on Sunday, said there was no way the Nigerian government could handle the insecurity crisis alone without external help.
According to the former governor, time had come for the government to henceforth, place priority on intelligent personnel, whom he described as software, rather than put all focus on arms and ammunition, which he described as hardware.
Kalu maintained that for Nigeria to reduce the number of deaths caused by the
Boko Haram sect, the government would need to partner with the Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability (CIA) and other security arms on the globe, cautioning that without this, the sect would continue to gain upper hand.
For Kalu, Nigeria cannot afford to stay away from countries like the United States of America (USA), Germany, United Kingdom and even China if it wants to defeat these insurgents.
While declaring that those advising the government to work against the interest of the above named countries were ignorant, Kalu maintained: “You cannot do this business without the CIA and other international security agencies. I say this times without number, anybody thinking that Nigeria will be an enemy of America is joking, as it is the most important country in the world and  has to be our best friend  if we want to move forward.
“So, people who are advising the Federal Government or advising individuals here to quarrel with America are making a great mistake. We have to be best friend of America, we have to be best
friend of the UK, we have to be best friend of Germany and we have to be best friend of China. We have to be best friends of the successful people, so that we too can be successful. Only when these best friends are involved, intelligence will come, as these guys are up there; they have technologies. The google-earth, the one used by American intelligent agencies are very superior. I think that the only thing google-earth has not been able to effectively monitor is the flight MH370, which they are working on; they are not sleeping.”
