Reps begin hearing on Diezani’s N10bn private jet today

The House of Representatives will today kick start the investigation into the alleged N10 billion private jet maintenance cost for the petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The committee on public account was last month mandated by the House of Representatives to investigate the allegation labeled against the minister.
But sources from the committee yesterday revealed that all the major actors in the investigation were yet to furnish the committee of the needed documents required ahead of today’s hearing.
Mrs. Alison-Madueke, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), operators of the jet and other relevant agencies of the federal government have not responded to the memos of the committee.
A source from the committee said members have agreed to meet today and deliberate on the development, despite the failures of the minister and other agencies to provide the documents.
The source, who pleaded anonymity, added “as I speak we are yet to hear

from the minister and others, all we are hearing is that the public hearing will not hold, but I can assure you that as lawmakers, we will do our part, even if the need would be issuing warrant of arrest of those involved. Nobody is above the law of the land.”
Chairman of the committee Rep Solomon Adeola-Olamilekan (APC, Lagos), when contacted yesterday said since today was scheduled for the hearing, the committee would meet with a view to coming up with a position.
