Atiku Condemns Jos Blasts, Calls For Political Parties’ Conference

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for the convocation of all political parties conference to forge a united approach in dealing with insecurity in the country.
This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday and signed by his Media Officer, Malam Garba Shehu.
Abubakar, in the statement, described the persistent terrorist bomb attacks as the greatest enemy to the peace and unity of the country.
According to the statement, the constant terrorist violence against innocent people is embarrassing and intolerable.
It advised Nigerians not to despair or succumb to terrorists’ blackmail which is aimed at paralysing the country with fear, hopelessness and turning Nigerians against
one another.
“ Terrorism is an act of deliberate provocation intended to throw Nigerians at each other’s jugular, thereby destroying every positive gains of the country since amalgamation and independence,’’ it said.
The former vice president appealed to Nigerians not to play into the terrorists’ hands by letting themselves getting provoked into fighting each other.
The statement urged politicians to be united in condemning terrorists’ violence against innocent people, adding that terrorists enjoy dividing public opinion in order to justify their atrocities.
Abubakar condoled with the people, the families of the victims and the governments of Plateau, Kano and Borno over the tragic loss of lives and properties.
It stressed the need for Nigerians to be more security conscious by reporting suspicious activities or suspiciously parked and abandoned vehicles at crowded public places.
The statement called on the relevant agencies to put in place machinery for evacuating vehicles that may have been abandoned by their owners. (NAN)
