#BringBackOurGirls: President Goodluck Jonathan issued 48hr ultimatum
The #BringBackOurGirls Campaign has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to President Goodluck Jonathan to respond to their letter. According to reports from Leadership, the #BringBackOurGirls protesters issued a letter to the president demanding answers to questions raised by the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls from Chibok in Borno State. The group stated that if the president failed to respond to its letter, it would stage a mega protest on Tuesday. The former Education Minister, who spoke at the usual 3pm meeting of protesters in Abuja, stated that the group would in the meantime, mobilise people from all the states as it awaited response from the president. “We are still waiting for the response from the presidency as to the letter we have written for a meeting with him and we are still going to continue follow up. And then we will let you know as soon as we get a feedback from him,” she said. She also disclosed that the group would be paying a visit to the Chibok community next week to sympathise with parents and fellow citizens with an aim to show them that Nigerians are all rallying around them until the abducted girls will be released. Leadership also reports that the head of mobilisation of the group, Jibrin Jibom also emphasised the need for the group to prepare a Citizen Chartered of Demand on not only what should be done in rescuing the girls, but how to correct non-performance of the whole system of government. He stated that it was high time the president stopped listening to people around him, who did not have the good of the country at heart. The group, which debated about meeting constantly to discuss on new development about the abducted girls, agreed that there was no sacrifice too small for the girls and would meet everyday until the girls were released.
