Don’t swap Chibok girls with Boko Haram prisoners -Okei-Odumakin
The President of the Women Arise for Change
Initiative, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin on Monday
urged the federal government not to accede to
the suggestion of swapping the abducted girls
from Chibok, Borno State with Boko Haram
prisoners.
She spoke in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital
during a ‘Bring Back Our girls’ protest.
She said it was sad that over 200 students of the
Government Secondary School who were
abducted since April 14 were still languishing in
custody of the Boko Haram insurgents.
Okei-Odumakin said, “We refuse to give them
up. We refuse to surrender them to terrorists
and we refuse to surrender them to enemies of
progress.
“We refuse to exchange our girls for prisoners.
On no circumstances should the girls be
exchanged for Boko Haram prisoners.
“Rather, Shekau should be smoked out and our
girls be rescued.”
She said the insecurity in some parts of the
country has shown that the nation’s security
system needed to be overhauled.
She also urged the Federal Government to fish
out the sponsors of the sect.
Odumakin appealed to the Federal Government
to compensate the abducted girls and their
families.
She also advised the government to make it
possible for the victims to conclude the
WASSCE examination that they were writing
before their abduction.
