Fee hike: Soldiers shoot protesting OAU students
Some students of Obafemi Awolowo University were
on Thursday shot at by soldiers. The students were
protesting the 322 per cent increase in their school fees.
They were at the Ilesa-Ife high way when they were
shot.
According to eyewitnesses, three of the students were
shot and injured in several parts of their body with the
rubber bullets.
One of the soldiers identified as Idris Ajisesi from his
uniform, shot three of the students.
It was gathered that the soldiers were escorts to a
presidency convoy. They were led by an ex-militant,
who introduced himself as High Chief Okubo Robert.
It was learnt that Robert, who came with a jeep with
number plate FG902B02, angered the students when he
ordered that troops should be sent to combat the
students.
It took the intervention of stranded motorists and
travellers before the students, who almost lynched the
soldier stopped.
