Jonathan has polarised Nigeria with religion —CNPP

THE National Publicity Secretary, Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), Mr. Osita Okechukwu, yesterday said that President Goodluck Jonathan has polarized Nigeria along religious lines. He said: “Let me be honest with you. President Jonathan and his handlers seem to have devoted more energy in trying to polarise and divide the country on religious line. Nigeria has never been divided as we are today on religion and ethnic lines.” According to Okechukwu, who is also a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), no Ngerian President or Head of State has attended the number of churches Jonathan has attended. Speaking with The Nation at Abuja, he explained that as a political scientist, he has realized that for the President to avoid the people in 2015, he is diverting their attention to religion. Commenting on the state of the nation and its insecurity, the CNPP spokesman maintained that instead of blaming the current insecurity on Jonathan, the citizenry should rather blame ex- President Obasanjo, who imposed him on Nigerians. Okechukwu noted the country has been tilting towards a failed state because without preparation for leadership, the incumbent and most of the past presidents were imposed on the people . He recalled that while former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili was desirous of the presidency, the kingmakers ignored him and chose Jonathan who had no preparation for the position. His words: “Why are you blaming Jonathan instead of Obasanjo that foisted him on the country? He imposed him on us. Jonathan never wanted to be president. He never trained himself or addressed his mind to be a president. “Why the Nigerian state is sliding dangerously into a failed state is because Tafawa Balawa never wanted to become the Prime Minister of Nigeria, he was drafted. Gowon never wanted to be the Head of State, he was drafted. Obasanjo never wanted to be Head of State, he was drafted. Shagari never wanted to be President, he was drafted.“ At each time they have drafted this man, draft this man. Those who are saying they want to be President nobody wants to listen to them. Peter Odili, who wanted to be president nobody listened to him but they went and brought someone who was so comfortable in Bayelsa thinking what to do when his tenure expired and made him the Vice President.”
