Mimiko charges politicians to play according to rule
Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has
called on politicians in the country to ensure
that the nation’s democracy grows into maturity
by playing the game of politics according to its
rules.
Governor Mimiko gave this charge in a
statement signed by the state Commissioner for
information in Akure, the state capital, on
Thursday, in commemoration of the nation’s
Democracy Day.
The current democratic dispensation in Nigeria
began in May 29 1999.
Urging politicians in the country to ensure that
“we protect and promote what binds us
together” Dr Mimiko said it was only when
politicians played according to the rule of the
game that the country could witness the desired
growth that prompted the adoption of the
democratic system of governance.
He said Nigeria’s destiny shall manifest despite
its challenges, adding that, at every point ,the
country was at the edge, the invisible hand of
God would come and restore her. This, he said,
was a clear indication that God was interested in
the project Nigeria.
Submitting that democracy has come to stay in
the country, Mimiko said the fact that the
country continued to thrive despite the myriads
of challenges confronting it, was an indication
that the country would get to the Promised
Land.
“The Nigerian nation has no doubt come to
stay, but for us to achieve the ultimate aim for
adopting democracy as our system of
government, which is growth, we must play the
game the way it should be played.
“Our politics should be without bitterness and
rancour and promote the desired peace which is
important for growth.
“At the level we are in our nation, we should
promote unity and desist from any action that is
capable of derailing our democracy because
many nations are also looking up to us a role
model”
