Nigerian youths can end insurgency –Obiano

Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano has said Nigerian youths can bring an end to the present unrest and insurgency ravaging parts of the country if they gal vanise their opinions and channel their energies to productive ventures. The governor spoke in Awka yesterday when members of the Society for Peace and Mutual Co-existence (SPMC) also known as Peace Ambassadors presented a certificate of recognition to his Special Adviser on Youth Mobilisation, Mr Chinedu Obidigwe as a Peace Ambassador for his roles in maintaining peace during his tenure as Transition Committee chairman of Anambra East Local Government Area. Obidigwe, who presented Governor Obiano’s views said if youths embraced peace and intensified efforts to reach out with peace to other youths, there would be relative peace, development and growth in the North East rather than maiming, destruction and kidnapping by
Boko Haram insurgents presumed to be youths. He dedicated the recognition and certificate to Governor Obiano for bringing peace to Anambra in line with the efforts of his predecessor, Peter Obi in maintaining peace and expressed hope that the atmo sphere of peace would be sustained in Anambra State. Obidigwe expressed surprise that he was to be recognised and decorated as a peace ambassador by the youth group unsolicited, as all he did while in the local government was to enthrone peace as he could have taken his people to war with some elements from Kogi State who laid claims to the oil facilities in his territory but he chose the way of peace not knowing that his efforts were being monitored. Presenting the certificate of recognition and honour to Obidigwe, President of the Society for peace and Mutual Co-existence, Ambassador James Lawson said Obiano’s leadership in Anambra has achieved a good level of peace and one of the most peaceful in the country, based on empirical records.
