I’ll contest 2015 Ebonyi gov election -Senator
Chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Sen. Paulinus
Nwagu, has declared his intention to contest the 2015
governorship election in Ebonyi State.
Nwagu made the announcement at a news conference in Abuja
on Wednesday.
He said he took the decision due to pressure from the people of
the state.
He said this announcement was not an official declaration but
an acceptance of the call from the people of the state.
“In total obedience to this clarion call from my people, I have
decided to make myself available to them as a gubernatorial
aspirant in Ebonyi under the PDP.
“This is a mere indication and affirmation of my intention to run
for the office of governor of Ebonyi, not a campaign for the
contest,” Nwagu said.
He said he would commence his campaign when the PDP
released its election guidelines.
Nwagu appealed to the media to support his aspiration.
He said he was the most qualified candidate with his pedigree
and achievements in politics as he had served as Chancellor
before becoming a senator.
He said although he might not be the anointed candidate of Gov.
Martin Elechi, the governor would have no choice but to accept
his candidacy since he was the choice of the people.
He criticised zoning of electoral positions, saying the
arrangement denied the electorate the best candidate in an
election.
He said if zoning was considered in the US, Barrack Obama
would not have become President.
Nwagu commended INEC for the arrangement put in place for
the Ekiti State governorship election slated for June 21.
