Osun 2014: Suspected political thugs clash at APC campaign
The re-election campaign of Governor Rauf Aregbesola of
the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State was
almost marred by violence in Iwo, on Tuesday, when some
suspected political thugs engaged themselves in free-for-
all under the precinct of Iwo/Olaoluwa/Ayedire Federal
Constituency.
Some fierce-looking thugs were alleged to have attacked
the bus belonging to the leader of market women in the
state, Alhaja Awawu Asindemade and vandalised it at a
spot near the venue of the campaign.
But, some unidentified youths in an alleged reprisal attack,
swiftly mobilised themselves and traced the leader of the
gang that carried out the attack to his house and violently
attacked him, just as several youths brandishing
dangerous weapons were also spotted combing the
neighborhood where the rally was held.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Osun
State police command, DSP Folasade Odoro, said she was
yet to be briefed about the development.
While addressing the huge crowd that thronged the venue
of the rally at Iwo, the standard- bearer of the APC in the
August 9, 2014 governorship poll, Mr Aregbesola, said
with the kind of massive support the APC was currently
enjoying in the state, the party was close to victory at the
election.
