Plateau North kicks against zoning gov seat
Senator Gyang Pwajok said, on Tuesday, that
the people of Plateau North senatorial zone were not in
support of zoning the governorship seat of the state in
2015.
Pwajok said this in an interview with NAN in Jos.
“The people from the zone were not ready for a zonal
governor.
“Plateau people want a Plateau governor who will see the
entire state as his constituency; we are not interested in
someone who will see himself as representing his
senatorial zone," he said.
NAN reported that leaders of the north, south and central
senatorial districts in the state had stepped up campaigns,
with each claiming that it had more reasons to produce the
governor in 2015.
Pwajok, however, called for “absolute caution’’ on the
issue, and urged the people to consider merit as against
zoning.
“It is also pertinent that all aspirants should remember that
they need each other to get to the seat because the entire
state is the constituency.
“I will equally advise that aspirants seeking to be
governor on the grounds of zoning should not push it too
far as every zone can find enough justification to seek the
seat because all the zones have occupied it.
“We must also be sensitive in our choice of words; we
must avoid pointing accusing fingers at zones that have
not even declared for the seat because if we press that too
far, we could provoke responses that may not be good for
party unit.”
