Rivers lawmakers in fresh move to impeach Amaechi[PUNCH]
Following the striking out of Rivers State
Governor’s suit to stop the state’s lawmakers from
removing him from office, the five anti-Rotimi
Amaechi lawmakers said on Friday they had put
measures in place to impeach the governor.
The leader of the anti-Amaechi lawmakers, Mr. Evans
Bipi, told Sunday PUNCH in a telephone interview
that Amaechi had committed impeachable offences.
Apart from Bipi, other lawmakers that have been
opposed to the Amaechi administration are Victor
Ihunwo, Michael Chinda, Martins Amaewhule and
Kelechi Nwogu.
Bipi alleged that the governor was withholding the
allowances and emoluments of lawmakers perceived to
be against his policies.
The lawmaker, who parades himself as the Speaker of
the Sate House of Assembly, vowed that the anti-
Amaechi legislators would sit at an undisclosed place
to effect the removal of the governor.
Bipi argued that if the 25 pro-Amaechi lawmakers
could sit in Government House to hold plenary, there
was nothing wrong if he and members decided to
impeach the governor at any location.
He stated that Amaechi must be made to account for the
resources accruing to the state. He insisted that they
would be swift and decisive in their move to unseat the
governor.
Bipi said, “Amaechi has committed a lot of
impeachable offences. My constituency project
entitlement was withheld by him. He has withheld our
(anti-Amaechi lawmakers) allowances. He has been
taking loans without the consent of the full house.
But the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr.
Otelemaba Dan-Amachree, disagreed with the anti-
Amaechi lawmakers. He stated that the governor had
not committed any offence that would warrant any
move for his impeachment.[PUNCH]
