Boko Haram: FG should call for foreign help

VIRTUALLY all peace-loving Nigerians are tired of the incessant killings, bombings, destruction of properties, among others, being carried out by the Boko Haram insurgents.
Every time we thought the crisis was about to end, the terrorists came up with deadlier attacks. The last bombing at the Nyanya motor park in Abuja is a sign that these killers still have the strategy to attack when we least expect. It is unfortunate that innocent people are being made to suffer for what they know nothing about.
Boko Haram is using the killing of innocent people to make a statement, while those in positions of authority are heavily-guarded by armed security.
With the latest bomb attack in Nyanya, I think it is high time the Nigerian government called for foreign help in this war. The tactics of the Boko Haram terrorists are strange to our military men, and it is better we seek the assistance of countries that have passed through this phase before.
In my own opinion, nothing stops us from calling the Isreali government to come to our aid. Isreal, over the years, has been dealing with such attacks from Palestinian militants, so they should know how to help us tackle Boko Haram too.
I also want to suggest that the countries bordering the North East, like Cameroon, Chad and Niger, should also be involved in the war.
President Goodluck Jonathan should go and meet the presidents of these countries, and tell
them of the need to establish a joint military force to counter the threat from the insurgents.
Boko Haram is a regional threat, and as such, these countries should not act as if it is Nigeria’s problem. When they are done with Nigeria, they will definitely face them as well. President Jonathan should be able to let his counterparts see reason on the need to flush out terrorists from this region.
Again, where is the stand-by ECOWAS force? Nigeria helped out in solving the crisis in Sierra-Leone, Liberia and other troubled countries, then it is just right for the ECOWAS force to also come together and help Nigeria win this war.
A troubled Nigeria is a problem for the West African region. How many countries can absorb refugees from Nigeria if the war becomes full-blown?
In order to prevent this, I think foreign forces should come in and help Nigeria. However, no country will just send its forces and security experts to Nigeria without us calling for help. We should put aside our pride.
People are being killed. We are all tired of this nonsense. Enough is enough!

Tanko Kassim,
Abaji-Abuja,
Abuja.
