APGA chairman urges investment in education
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand
Alliance, Chief Victor Umeh, on Tuesday urged
wealthy individuals to invest in education.
Umeh spoke after inaugurating a building donated to
the General Studies Department of Enugu State
University of Science and Technology by an
industrialist, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, the chairman/
chief executive officer of Innoson Motors.
The APGA chieftain urged other wealthy individuals in
the society, particularly in the South East, to emulate
Chukwuma.
“There are so many rich men in Igboland who are
building mansions and plazas, they should emulate
Innoson (Chukwuma) by donating some of them to
educational institutions,” he said.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Cyprian
Onyeji, noted that the government cannot effectively
fund education alone.
Onyeji added that the building was the first donation
received by the university from any of its former
students.
He explained that Chukwuma was an alumnus of
ESUT, having received an honorary doctorate degree
from the institution in 2011.
In an address at the event, Chukwuma explained that
the donation of the ‘General Studies Complex’ was a
fulfillment of a promise he made to the institution in
2011.
He added that he will do more, saying, “This is the
beginning of what I intend to do for the university.”
