Mass defection set to rock APC in Ogun state as crisis reaches point of no return
The APC in Ogun state might experience a mass
defection soon, Chief Olusegunn Osoba has hinted.
According to reports from ThisDay, the former
Governor of Ogun State and national leader of the All
Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Olusegun Osoba,
Thursday hinted on the possibility of a mass defection
of loyalists to a yet-to-be disclosed political party.
According to him, the crisis in the ruling party in the
state had got to a point of no return.
Osoba, who spoke in his residence while
addressing members of his party during
the consultative forum, ruled out the
possibility of working with the state
Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, of and his
faction of the APC with a total rejection
of the sharing formula of party offices.
The former governor, however, disclosed
that himself and the party executive
members had reached a consensus not to
negotiate with anyone or group with
regard to the ongoing crisis in the APC in
the state.
On this note, the former governor had
directed his loyalists to commence
compilation of a new members’ register in
the 236 wards across the state.
He warned his members not to allow
themselves to be deceived by the antics of
those pretending to be looking for a
solution to the crisis in the APC in the
state.
Osoba also decried the setting up of an
elders’ committee to look into the crisis in
the APC in the state, saying the current
situation had gone beyond what such a
body could handle.
“They are only looking for sentiments;
they are looking for ways to eat you up.
Let them go their way,” he said.
The former governor added that he and the
members of the executive loyal to him had
resolved that he would not allow anyone or
group to appeal or prevail on him to
forgive those currently opposed to their
faction.
He said: “Your executive members met me
and said you (members) have resolved not
to work with anyone again; that you have
resolved to go , your own way.
“Secondly, they said you have rejected
harmonisation and that you don’t want any
sharing formula with them, be it 80:30 or
70:30 because you are the authentic and
original APC members. Is that so?
“They said you are the ones who have the
tellers; who obtained your tellers
individually for the congresses; you are
the ones who followed what the party
guidelines say and so you don’t want
sharing formula. Is that so?”
